Episode 0: Dr. Jermaine Martinez as he introduces the mission and vision of the podcast, drifting along with Marshall McLuhan

In many ways, the NTK podcast was inspired by the work of Marshall McLuhan.

In this episode, Dr. Martinez drifts along with McLuhan’s ideas about the imperceptible nature of media environments.

Moving out of an essay found in McLuhan Unbound (Link Needed) titled, The Emperors Old Clothes,  Dr. Martinez explores the challenges of becoming aware of our mediated environment.

Finding McLuhan’s observation that the “anti-social” person, in the form of artists, children, and the mentally ill, Dr. Martinez suggests that we have to find and make peace with the noise within ourselves if we are to train our perceptions for transforming media noise into knowledge.
